WELCOME TO STAPLEFORD & DISTRICT u3a
Stapleford is a very historic town of which we are proud.
Stapleford has a number of Historic buildings, such as St Helens Church which houses an Old Cross which stood at the crossroads outside the church and the nearby public house. The cross now lives in the church yard. The Town Council resides in The Carnegie Building which used to be a Library.
The town consists of a number of young families and elderly residents which rub along nicely together and there is a lovely warm community feel to our town.
We have a newly refurbished library which the u3a uses for some of it's interest groups. As part of it's regeneration project the Stapleford Community Pavilion which incorporates a cafe, health gym, plus nursery.
Stapleford have annual events for example a march for the fallen of the last 2 wars.
In Walter Parker Square there is a memorial stone to commemorate our Local soldiers and it lists their names. The square was named after Lance Corporal Walter Richard Parker who was awarded the Victoria Cross in recognition of his bravery at Gabatepe Gallipoli in 1915.
Every November we have a Remembrance Day Parade to Honour our fallen soldiers from the 1st and 2nd World Wars.

Our u3a Chair's (claim to fame) currently lives in the house that Walter Parker lived in.
Stapleford Town Council provide banners ( with the faces of the Heroes whose names are inscribed on the Towns War Memorial) and display on lamp-posts along Stapleford high street.

In December we have the light switch on plus a Christmas fair in preparation of the festive season.
Stapleford hold window dressing competitions at Easter and Christmas, our Yarn Bombers decorate the area with knitted items that celebrate particular events such as the World Cup and World book day.
At Stapleford & District u3a like all other u3a's around the country, we are a self-help organisation for people no longer in full time employment. Stapleford provide opportunities for its members to share a wide range of activities in a friendly environment, run by it's volunteer members. These activities can be viewed on the Groups page
We have groups for a variety of interests whether it be active, creative, or ones that can stretch your brain. We find that members really look forward to catching up with those members who have similar interests.

You can join us at our monthly meeting, Membership is not required at initial visit we would just like you to get the feel of what we are about.
MEETINGS
We have a monthly Open Meeting from 2.00-4.00 pm on the first Wednesday of the month. We meet at Stapleford Methodist Church, Eatons Road, NG9 7EA, where members meet together and enjoy a programme of interesting speakers followed by refreshments and time to mingle and socialise.

TO JOIN
You can join at our Open Monthly meetings - new members are always welcome. Our membership year runs from April to March and our current annual membership fee is £20.00. Visitors are charged a fee of £2.00 per visit. If you require any more information than is printed on our Welcome page then please contact the Membership Secretary.
